Helen was born in the 60's in Adelaide and has lived and worked in the arts in Tasmania, the Northern Territory and Malaysia as well as her home state of South Australia.
She has exhibited since 1987, with her first solo exhibition held in Tasmania in 1996. Helen has since held major exhibitions in Malaysia, Adelaide and Tasmania as well as working on a few commissions. Helen is currently an accredited member of Guildhouse.
Initially Helen trained and worked for 4 good years as a Secondary School Art Teacher before taking a studio space in Adelaide as a freelance sculptor in 1990. The teacher training and experience provided invaluable skills and experience to be able to then work as an art centre coordinator for 18 months at Munupi Arts and Crafts Association, on Melville Island, in the Northern Territory.
Helen worked as the Administrator for a national puppetry theatre from 1995 - 1999 and has coordinated numerous performance/arts projects. She has developed and run projects regularly with community groups, aged care, education, health and mental health organisations . Recent projects have been developed corroboratively with Lawrence Wilkes (artist and partner).
Helen's recent focus has been community arts projects, where her interest in education and creativity brings together a wealth of experience in working with multicultural communities, arts administration and various media to create works developed and executed by community members.
Another definitive arts experience for Helen was a 14 month artist residency at Rimbun Dahan in 1999, Malaysia, and she stayed to further work in Malaysia on the island of Langkawi. She returned to work and exhibit in Malaysia in 2003 and was also invited to participate as a sculptor creating new works for the Malaysian 2016 Langkawi Biennial.
Helen is passionate about the environment, especially the marine environment and enjoys scuba diving, underwater photography and surfing or snorkelling as well as gardening for her health and well being. She likes chooks and bees, and wants to be a farmer when she grows up.
